Media Post: Winter 2015
This is a media catch-all post! It will cover the period from when it goes up (late November) to the end of 2016 ICly (2015 OOCly). After that time, we'll make a new post for relevance, and we won't account for comments to this one anymore.
You can use this post to cover media appearances by or about your characters in ways that wouldn't necessarily show up on the network. If Locke's local news runs a story on your character, it goes here. If they show up on the cover of the Locke City Times, it goes here. If they're making a post that's mirrored to a social service (or only on such a service), that counts already - don't comment here, we see it already. Notable events will, understandably, draw the attention of the media, and that's why this post is here. This gives you a little bit of control on how something's reported, and also a way to let us know what is and isn't known to the public at large.
If a news report will cover an event in progress, a link would be appreciated; this mostly includes things threaded out, especially in public places. If it's something small, or handwaved, summarize here in some detail what's going on - or if you're so inclined, some or all of the relevant reporting is fine, too. Be aware that the media's camera can catch a lot - if there are more characters involved, make sure everyone is okay with what's going on and there's a single, coherent story to present. You are also welcome to combine this with a network reaction post to such a report - basically, comment here to tell us what's going on, then hop over to the IC community and start the music. (Link back here so people know what's going on, if your character isn't explaining already.)
This post will serve a few functions in this respect:
The mods know what's going on that other characters and factions would know about. We can stay informed, which helps us present relevant and timely events to the players as a whole, and can also help move plots along (or provoke new ones!).
NPCs can react to news-worthy events, because we know what's made the rounds for non-Numbered characters to see. We can also adjust the general disposition of the world's Numbered hotspots based on what they know. If a tree falls in Locke City, and nobody's there to hear it, someone will blame the Numbered. (Or Thunder. Or the military. Or...)
Players that have a hard time keeping up can keep track of game politics at a glance by just checking this post. Easy, right?
Comment to this post with any media reports you want to turn in. Include the affected character(s), the kind of outlet breaking the story, the date, the relevant location(s), and any other important information we need to know. You are welcome to pretend some journalist NPC is writing the story and may present some kind of spin, but in general, we want the facts - unless it's something very, very readily misunderstood, of course. However, we ask that you be mindful of the state of the media, the game, and what respective locations are like, as well as what is reasonable for your character and the situation; a relative unknown isn't going to end up on the national news without good reason, and the locations post talks about how all the various locales are different. If you have any questions about what is reasonable, there's a thread for questions or other media-related needs below.
