All aboard for Raise the Earth's first plot post, covering the start of the game! We'll use plot posts to communicate what's going on in the game, touch on player plots in progress or starting soon, and talk about what's coming up. This is also your hotspot for what Echo opportunities are in your character's future! Use plot posts to gather information, prepare a group to take on something that's coming down the pipeline, or ask questions about coming events. Expect plot posts every two to six weeks, depending on how event-dense things are at the moment. And even if you're not going to do anything with what's presented, remember that sometimes weird things happen in the game world that affect how characters can interact with it. If it's raining acid, whether you're doing something about it or not, you can't go out in summer clothes, right?
Generally, plot events in Raise the Earth aren't going to take care of themselves - only through player effort will anything be done. If something is only available for a limited time, you'll know. And if you need a little more OOC time to get something done, let us know - we can work with you!
Recent EventsJust a month prior to July 25th, Factor Industries gave the Numbered a gift, secretly establishing the teleporter network leading to all major in-game locations. Likewise, he’s ensured that any Numbered who requests use of his teleporters (through secure means of course) would be given transportation to the nearest one, provided they can provide proof of their status and they are in a reachable location. Information about this fact is distributed by the Numbered to new users of the network. Unbeknownst to Factor, Thunder Corp has also established their clandestine teleportation network using symbols marked in various places across the world.
For those curious about how the teleporters work, they’re similar to Project Jump, which was utilized in Save the Earth. However, these do not connect the user to symbols, but rather, different teleporter pads Factor has placed in buildings he owns all over the world. Unfortunately, only the Numbered can use them, as they tie into the unique energies of the Earth. Thunder Corp’s method is known only to the people they share with, and unlike their earlier creation Project Jump, require no external technology, just contact with a secret they’ve scoured into the Earth. Who have they shared this information with? That will be revealed in time.
Speaking of Thunder Corp, around the same time, they announced that the “Locke City Reconstruction Project” was finally completed, with multiple news outlets and politicians praising them for doing so in just over a year. Others have remarked that this seems
highly unusual, prompting the former groups to criticize the latter for criticizing Thunder Corp for being efficient.
Happening NowOn July 25th, green globs of slime will begin to appear all over the world. There are a great number of them, and they look like stereotypical balls of the stuff. They're sticky, and quite thick. They also happen to have a high resistance to damage: even Numbered attempts to destroy them simply cause them to split.
The scientific community will discover that these balls of slime are actually composed in their entirety of the microbes that were discovered shortly after the alien invasion. But their true interest is in their connection to the Numbered. On contact, these balls of slime temporarily turn into items from that character's preincarnation's life - mundane things, like toys or office supplies or chairs, all the way on up to things a character owned that were significant to them. These items have no powers, even if they otherwise should, but they can trigger recurrence Echoes all the same. They won't last very long, though - after a short time, at most half a day, they return to goo, and stay that way for at least 24 hours. Once that much time has gone by, they may change into something again at random. Characters can't influence what the slime turns into, though players are free to choose more or less whatever they'd like, with the limit that the size of the item is limited by the size of the slime, and can't be a living thing. Contact with the slime gives characters a plot Echo the first time! If an Echo would give a character back an item slime is currently taking the form of, the item they are holding will have its powers (or will be able to gain them), and won't disappear - it'll become the real deal.
On August 5th, all of the slime will disappear without a trace, whether it was transformed into something else or not.
Coming Up
Coming soon, we will have information on Echo Incursions. There was a slight taste of those on the first Test Drive, and it should be an indication of things to come! Sort of. There'll be bigger details on just what those entail after the first week or so, just remember - the multiverse is a very big place, and Echoes aren't just something that can help the Numbered...
World Notes
Furthermore, we would also like to clarify the fact that Numbered are not widely in danger of being attacked en masse in major cities (even in Locke, where public opinion of them is among the lowest), and that anti-Numbered sentiment varies by location. Any negative response would, at this point in time, come in the form of distrust and resentment towards them for the various disasters that have befell the world. Of course, this varies depending on where you are (for instance, New LA is dangerous for a variety of reasons), and one should consult the locations page to get an idea of what is likely to go on there.
Some wording in the game information could have led to a little bit of misunderstanding there! Sorry about that. We'll be rectifying that and hammering out the kinks as we go.
For anyone wondering what condition a certain part of the world may be on versus others, feel free to ask - at the moment, our locations are designed to focus on plot important areas and will be updated as we go.
Echo Opportunities
- Contact with the slime, for the first time per character, gives one plot Echo.
- As always, canon recurrences give matching Echoes.
Other announcementsThe
locations page has been updated! Locations from Save the Earth have been added, and some tweaks have been made to ones that were previously listed!
That's all for our first plot post! If you have questions about any of the plots presented, we'll have a thread for them in the comments - ask us there! If you have a player plot that affects multiple characters and is kicking off soon (or is already running), let us know, and we'll see about adding it! Otherwise, feel free to use this post to figure out what your characters are doing with these developments!
